Mysore

Mysore is a self-paced class allowing students to receive individual instruction while learning the Ashtanga Yoga practice. All levels are welcome from new beginners to advanced practitioners looking to deepen their understanding of the practice. In the beginning, new students receive more attention. As you become more familiar with the practice, you are allowed more independence, getting adjustments and assistance only when needed.

Mysore Beginner

In this beginner’s class, you will learn the fundamentals of a Mysore style Ashtanga practice including the basic technique for breathing and movement (often referred to as vinyasa) as well as be guided through the initial sequence of postures. All levels of practitioners are welcome whether you are a new beginner or existing Ashtanga practitioner looking to cultivate an independent practice. Students will receive one-on-one instruction allowing them to progress at their own pace. In the beginning, please expect a shorter practice.  As proficiency is gained in the postures, poses will be added one at a time to the sequence allowing the student to realize the full therapeutic benefits of the practice.

Led Primary

For both new and experienced students, led class is an important compliment to a regular Mysore practice. It’s an opportunity to ensure that each vinyasa is being learned and practiced correctly. Furthermore, following the teacher’s count and pacing, is an opportunity to increase both our internal and external strength. Students will be guided through the poses based on their familiarity and proficiency in the practice.

Half Primary

In this class, students will learn the basics of a led Ashtanga practice including breath, drishti, and proper vinyasa count. This class is suitable for beginners with previous yoga experience as well as anyone with an existing Ashtanga practice. Students will be guided through half of the poses in the Primary Series with additional instruction and modifications provided so the practice is accessible to all.

Ashtanga Beginners

This beginners class offers an introduction to the Ashtanga method. Participants will be guided through the initial sequence of poses in a manner suitable for all ages and levels of physical fitness. No prior yoga experience is necessary.

Led Intermediate

Led Second Series class using traditional Sanskrit count. The second series is called nadi shodana which means to cleanse the nervous system. The series works on the subtle body by opening the channels allowing prana to move freely. This class is only recommended for those who are already proficient in the Primary Series, and have some knowledge of the Second Series postures.

You develop a meditative practice by following your own breath
Ashtanga is intended to be a moving meditation. Led classes are a fantastic way to learn about the breath and the vinyasa, but Mysore-style is where you follow your own breath and deepen your focus and meditation skills.

Mysore class is for everyone
Mysore class is a wonderful way for individuals at different levels of experience to practice together. With everyone in the room doing their own practice, Mysore class is a great way to encourage each student to work at their full capacity. In addition, if a student has any physical limitations or injuries, the teacher can provide individual instruction on how to approach the practice in a safe manner.
